Google introduces categories in Gmail

Last week Google announced a new Gmail inbox for mobile and web.
This new inbox is tagging automatically emails for you and arrange them in different categories like social, promotions, updates and forums.

For each label exists a new tab where you can see only the emails belonging to these labels.
You can place the tabs in any order you wish.

To activate this new feature (when its already available for your account) just click on the gear menu in the upper right and select "Configure inbox".

Google says that the new Inbox "puts you back in control using simple, easy organization."
Some users complained that it is very confusing to have two types of labels.
So it is on you to decide!

PS: For BackupGoo the new labels have no impact. As they are not visible on imap, BackupGoo will not handle them like the old type of labels.

BackupGoo 5 - arguments in the command line

With the release of BackupGoo5 a command line version has been introduced.

In an earlier post we already described how to setup BackupGoo on the command line.

When you have a look at BackupGoo's GUI you can find lots of settings in the options menu.
But how can you set them on the command line?

Thats very easy!

In your BackupGoo start folder you find a script called "backupgoo-setup.sh" (or backupgoo-setup.bat for Windows user).

With special arguments you are able to set up everything.

To print the help page which contains all the different arguments, please use:
 -h (--help)
e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -h" or "backupgoo-setup.sh  --help"

If you want to see your current settings in BackupGoo, run
 -s (--settings)
e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -s" or "backupgoo-setup.sh  --settings"

Sometimes user are only interested in saving ther Google Drive files and don't care about the emails.
They can use this arguments to turn on or off different services from the backup:

-bcal (--backup_calendar_service)
Use this option to turn on/off backup of your calendars.
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh -bcal false" or "backupgoo-setup.sh --backup_calendar_service false"
to turn the backup of the  Calendar service off.
-bcon (--backup_contacts_service)
Use this option to turn on/off backup of your contacts.
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh -bcon false" or "backupgoo-setup.sh --backup_contacts_service false"
to turn the backup of the Contatcs service off.
-bdrive (--backup_drive_service)
Use this option to turn on/off backup of Google drive.
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh -bdrive true" or "backupgoo-setup.sh --backup_drive_service true"
to turn the backup of the Drive service on.
-bmail (--backup_mail_service)
Use this option to turn on/off backup of GMail.
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -bmail true" or "backupgoo-setup.sh --backup_mail_service true"
to turn the backup of the GMail service on.

When you want to change the directory where the backup is stored, you can use this parameter:

 -dir (--backup-directory) <directory>
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -dir /home/<user>/backup" or "backupgoo-setup.sh --backup-directory
 /home/<user>/backup"

You decided to get a license and want now add the key to your BackupGoo, type
 -key (--license-key) <license_key>
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -key <license_key>" or "backupgoo-setup.sh  --license-key
 <license_key>"

For some reason it is helpfull to save the metadata of your Google Drive files too. The metadata contains for example the name of the last editor or the date when the last edit took place.
The information is saved in a tab seperated file. The argument is:
 -metadrive (--write_drive_metadata)
 e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -metadrive true" or "backupgoo-setup.sh  --write_drive_metadata true"

When you want to backup a large number of accounts, you can tell BackupGoo how many accounts should be processed at the same time.
 -p (--parallelbackups) <number>
e.g. "backupgoo-setup.sh  -p 10" or "backupgoo-setup.sh  -parallelbackups 10" to save ten accounts at the same time.

As you can see, all important settings can be made. If you think there are some missing, let us know and we will add them!
